FAQ

What is oslo filmmakers?

A community for filmmakers that creates and connects. It starts with the room. Hangouts every quarter, themed meetups in between, and a Discord that's open all the time. That's where people find the collaborators they've been looking for. Out of that room comes the work. Built by filmmakers for filmmakers.

Who is Oslo Filmmakers for?

People who are making things. Directors, writers, DPs, editors, producers, sound, actors. The only question we really care about is what you're working on right now. Not what you studied, not who you've worked for, not what's in your showreel.

Do I need experience?

No. You need to be making something, or seriously about to. There's no level to reach before you're allowed in. The room is full of people at very different stages, which is the entire point of having a room. Come with something you're working on and you'll find your way in fast.

Does it cost anything?

No. Discord is free, the hangouts are free, and being part of the community costs you an introduction and showing up. If we ever charge, it'll be for a specific thing with a specific cost behind it, a camp, a workshop, a screening, never for access to the community itself.

What do you actually make?

Sketches, short films, spoofs, and whatever else the room decides is worth making. The point isn't just to produce work, it's to make things the community can be part of. Crew, cast, ideas, feedback. If you want in on something we're making, that's what the Discord is for.

I'm not in Oslo, can I still join?

Yes. Most of what happens, happens on Discord, and that doesn't care where you live. Oslo is simply where the physical room is.

Who's behind Oslo Filmmakers?

Christian Søgaard and Parham Nikseresht, two filmmakers running two production companies who started collaborating and kept going. They're the creative directors and the people making it happen.

Who owns the films we make together?

The person who brought the idea keeps it. We agree who owns what before we shoot, in writing, so nobody finds out afterwards. We also make original Oslo Filmmakers projects, and those we publish on our channels to show what the community can do. Beyond that, the work belongs to the people who made it, and nothing goes out without their yes.

Open to everyone working within the film industry in the nordics.

Creating an audience we share, instead of fight over, and a production engine underneath it that gets the work finished.
